"Paul, you're always at the studio lately," Maddy said crossly. She was running frantically around their small house. The baby and tea kettle were crying out for attention, yet Paul seemed to care less. He was grabbing his coat and heading out the door.
"I'm sorry, Maddy, but our career is taking off. I can't just skip out on a recording session, now can I?" he shouted.
"Hey, I've got a job and I'm busy too, but you don't see me parading off and leaving you home alone with Eileen!" She heard his footsteps fading away from her. He was getting closer to leaving.
"Why don't we just get a nanny, again?!" Maddy stared down at their baby, only six months old. She sat in her high chair eating messily. Eileen looked precious in Maddy's eyes. Sure, when she was screaming she was a menace, but times like those when she was laughing Maddy didn't know why she had ever become frustrated with her.
"Because...I can't..." She had said it so softly, almost as if she was saying it to herself, it was unlikely that Paul had heard.
"Well, I'm leaving now! You'll always be my number one! Bye!" And then the door shut behind him.
"That complete...jerk, James Paul McCartney."
Maddy stomped away from the kitchen and into the living room. She sat down on the couch with a grunt. It felt as if Paul wasn't even trying anymore, like he didn't care about their relationship. One year as a married couple and they were already having problems. She put her face in her hands, trying to wipe away at the frustration that had grown onto it.
Sometimes she wasn't even sure if she could trust Paul. Was he really with the other fellows recording this much? Or was it just something he said to get away from her? Maybe he was having a secret affair behind her back! And she's been letting it happen... There could be a woman out there getting the love from Paul she's been so desperately wanting for several months now. What if it was a few woman? More than one woman getting Paul's attention? And one of them wasn't her? Maddy felt herself getting increasingly angry. If this was the case, would they have to get a divorce? Her heart sank. It was too early in their marriage for a divorce. They could work things out, right?
But a recording session...this late at night? Wait. This late at night? She checked the time. It was very late. She rushed over to where Eileen was eating in the kitchen to get her ready for bed. When Maddy came in, she found her baby sitting in her high chair with her bowl of food all over the floor.
Eileen looked down at the food, then back up at her mother. "Uh oh." Maddy smiled then picked her up.
"We're gonna take you upstairs to get a little washed up and then it's time for bed." She smiled, like she was agreeing with the plan.
As Maddy sat washing the day off of Eileen, and she played with her bathtub toys, she noticed a nasty thunderstorm raging on outside. She thought about Paul. Maybe he'd make up an excuse like "oh, it's too stormy to go home, I'll just stay at the studio."
"Isn't too stormy to head over to your mistresses house, now is it..." she grumbled under her breath. Eileen splashed a toy down into the water.
She got her dried off then into her pajamas before laying her down for bed. As she was turning the light off, there came a knock at the door. Maddy waited for a second, wondering if she was hearing things, when it came again. Slowly, she made her way to the front door. Who could be knocking at this time of night? A murderer, that's who. Ever so cautiously, she twisted the door knob and opened the door and there stood...Paul. He was soaking wet, with more rain pounding down on him.
"Paul, you're drenched! Come inside!" He smiled.
"No, you come out here...my love." He took her hand and pulled her into him. Rain began to pound down on her too. "I've missed spending time with you."
"I've missed you too, but can't we go-" And then he kissed her. He held her body close to his and rain slapped against the two of them, but neither seemed to care very much. They were together and that's all that mattered. She could feel her heart pounded against her chest as he pulled her closer to him. She wondered if he could feel it. Probably, but it's not like she cared.
"How's Eileen?" He asked, pushing a stray hair behind her ear. She smiled at him.
"Well, she's sleeping now. Oh and she knocked over her food earlier, I have to go get that." Quickly, she turned to go inside, but he stopped her.
"Come on...that can wait. And, y'know...I can do it. You do everything."
"Are you sure? Because it's really easy, I can do it myself-"
"If it's so easy, then I can do it." Again, she smiled. Whatever made him come back, she was thankful for. She missed having him around like this. It was like this before The Beatles ever got really popular. She almost resented their fame, but she couldn't because that would mean resenting Paul's dream.
He pulled her in for another kiss, squeezing her tightly, before saying "come on, let's get inside now. You must be freezing."
Paul peeled off her wet jacket and covered her with a dry one of his own. He went over to the kitchen to clean up the mess of her food that Eileen made. When he came back, he found that Maddy had fallen asleep on the couch. A soft smile spread over his face. He laid down next to her, wrapping his arms around her body. She stirred a little before spreading her own arms across his chest. It kept them warm. Then he kissed her eyelids and whispered "I love you" into her ear before falling asleep himself.
A request from :iconthat-scallywag: that's been long overdue!! I again apologize for it taking so long but I hope you like it! :)
